Dotty Dogs Grooming Salon
We are over the moon to welcome new dog groomers in Hexham! Dotty Dogs Grooming salon has moved in across the road from us and we have already booked most of the staff pets in! They are based at Unit 1, Sezze Building.
Dotty Dogs Grooming salon is owned by Melanie, who is wife to our own Finance and Marketing Manager, Graham, so we know Melanie very well!
Mel has been the Orchard choice of Hexham dog groomer for many years, so we are delighted that she was opened her very own salon exactly opposite us. We are also happy, as from time to time our staff dogs get a little bit muddy on their walk so Mel can sometimes squeeze them in!

Why is dog grooming important?
Dog grooming is an important part of pet ownership and not only for your dogs comfort or style, but also for their welfare. Matts and tatts can cause issues and discomfort, so regular grooming is the best way to avoid any problems! Groomers are highly skilled in handling dogs and often get much more up and close to your dog for a lot longer than a vet or vet nurse would.
This can sometimes lead to identifying lumps and bumps, and we have seen this many times over the years, and sometimes that has actually saved a dogs life!
Having a dog groomers in Hexham is great because we are surrounded by roaming countryside, which is full of bushes, mud and worse!
Dog grooming is important for both the health and well-being of your canine companion. It helps maintain a healthy coat, prevents skin problems, and allows for early detection of potential health issues. Regular grooming also contributes to better hygiene, reduces shedding, and can even improve a dog’s behavior.
- Maintaining a Healthy Coat and Skin:
- Prevents Matting:
Regular brushing and combing help prevent mats and tangles, which can be painful and lead to skin irritation if left untreated.
- Removes Dead Hair:
Grooming removes loose hair, reducing shedding and keeping the coat healthy and shiny.
- Distributes Natural Oils:
Brushing helps distribute natural oils, keeping the coat hydrated and preventing dryness.
- Promotes Good Hygiene:
Bathing and drying properly helps remove dirt, debris, and bacteria, reducing the risk of skin infections.
- Detecting Health Issues Early:
- Visual Inspection:
Grooming provides an opportunity to check for lumps, bumps, injuries, or signs of skin irritation.
- Early Detection:
A groomer can spot potential health problems like parasites, infections, or allergies early on.
- Improved Hygiene and Overall Well-being:
- Reduces Shedding: Grooming helps manage shedding, making your home cleaner.
- Prevents Infections: Regular grooming helps prevent skin and ear infections.
- Improves Behavior: A clean and comfortable dog is more likely to be well-behaved and relaxed.
- Strengthens Bond: Grooming can be a bonding experience, allowing you to spend quality time with your dog.
So as you can see, there is much more to dog grooming than simply making dogs look nice, that’s just the perk of it really!
