The aim of the ‘Pass Wide and Slow campaign’ is to raise awareness of the dangers that vulnerable road users like horse riders and cyclists face. The campaign is designed to make car users aware of the importance of keeping a safe distance and slowing down near such vulnerable road users. In 2020, 87 horses and 4 people died on British roads. 78% of these tragic events were not due to a collision but due to cars passing too closely and spooking the horse. 140 cyclists died on British roads in 2020 also.
