Orchard House Vets in the community

Orchard House Vets is the local, community-focused vet. As part of that we want to highlight the work we do in the community and raise awareness to local charities and community groups. In this section you will be able to find out more information about our selected charitable organisations and learn more about community events in and around the Tyne Valley.

What Orchard House Vets do for local charities

As a practice

We involve ourselves as a practice where possible by attending local shows, events and fundraisers. When we are unable to attend we try to sponsor or donate to as many events as we can.

How we involve our staff in fundraising

Our staff partake in sponsored walks, cake sales and the like! As a practice we want to encourage our staff to be members of the local community, be that Hexham, Stocksfield, Bellingham and everywhere in between.

Upcoming /  completed fundraisers and how to donate

Orchard House boot camp – Our staff participated in a gruelling boot camp to raise money for Vetlife. This wonderful charity help many of our veterinary professionals around the UK and rely on donations.

Wag & Company North East Friendship Dogs launched in 2016, covers the 12 unitary authorities of the North East and is the only visiting dog charity in the UK to visit and befriend elderly dog lovers in their own homes as well as in care or medical establishments.

To date Wag & Company has made over 75000 friend visits benefitting over 3000 North East pensioners.  We have over 400 volunteers but more are needed all the time;  there are so many people who need a friend, particularly now.

For many homeless people, their animal can be their only relationship, this provides a source of unconditional love.  Homeless people care deeply about the health and welfare of their pets. Yet they find it impossible to access veterinary care or are separated from their pets when accessing temporary housing.  Founded in Newcastle in 2016, Street Paws supports Nationally across the UK.

  • We provide free accessible vet care.
  • We provide emergency kennel space in times of need.
  • We support accommodation providers to welcome pets.
  • We ensure that the human animal bond is not broken.
  • We believe that everyone has the right to a safe place to sleep.
  • We keep homeless people and their dogs together.
  • We are Dog Champions Scheme

Vetlife is an independent Charity that provides free and confidential support to anyone in the UK veterinary community who has emotional, health or financial problems. The Veterinary sector sadly tops the UK list of jobs with the highest suicide, depression and mental health figures.

Today, the Charity is providing more support than ever. 2020 was Vetlife Helpline’s busiest year with an increase in calls and emails of over 25% since 2019.

Charities

We have a select number of charities we work with every year and as much as we would like to help all charities, we simply cannot. However, please do approach us as we may consider your charity in the future, or a member of our team may wish to do a specific fundraiser for you.

Events

We have a set budget per year for sponsoring events but encourage events to approach us as we review the events we will sponsor every year. Use the contact form opposite to contact us.

In the community

We can facilitate school visits, career talks and much more. As a busy working practice we are sure you can appreciate that it isn’t always possible to fulfil every request we receive but if it is possible for us to attend a community event or facilitate a school visit, then we will endeavour to do so.
