Laparoscopic surgery at our Hexham Vet Clinic

Keyhole surgery uses specialist instruments and endoscopes (cameras) to perform surgeries though small incisions in the abdomen. Large incisions can be avoided during laparoscopic spay because the surgeon uses an instrument called a laparascope to remove only the ovaries.

To help reduce post operative complications, minimally invasive surgical procedures  have largely replaced traditional 'open' surgeries and this is especially true with Laparoscopic spays.

Why Choose the Laparoscopic Spay Procedure

Reduced post-operative pain and discomfort

Faster return to normal activity levels - especially useful for active or working dogs

Smaller surgical wounds with fewer post operative complications, such as decreased risk of wound infections

Better visibility during surgery Decreased surgical time

Are Laparoscopic spays more expensive than traditional spays?

Owners with vet in consulting room
Laparoscopic ovariectomy costs more than a traditional spay procedure because it is carried out by a specialist surgeon and requires specialist equipment. Laparoscopic surgery equipment is also costly to purchase and maintain, it takes extra training, experience and a higher level of surgical expertise. The exact variance in cost depends on the size of the dog, however, most owners find the procedure is worth the money.

Testimonials

Keyhole surgery has benefitted my dog greatly. She recovered much quicker and appeared to be in a lot less pain than I have seen other dogs show in the past. Highly recommend Orchard House Vets and keyhole spays.
